Overview
The Spirit of Boise Balloon Classic is one of Idaho's largest annual community celebrations, bringing together thousands of attendees, local businesses, sponsors, media partners and volunteers for a multi-day hot-air balloon festival. As part of the marketing and broadcast team, I helped plan, promote and execute the event across two consecutive years through integrated media campaigns, live broadcasts, social storytelling, sponsor activation and on-site audience engagement. The goal was to make the festival something people anticipated, experienced and remembered.

Audience Insight
A great event begins before anyone arrives. For a community festival, anticipation is part of the experience. Audiences need reasons to imagine themselves there, sponsors need meaningful ways to participate, and the stories created during the event need to travel beyond the festival grounds. Our strategy connected promotion, live broadcasting, social content, community partnerships and earned media so the experience could begin before launch day and continue after the final balloon landed.
Strategy
Integrated Event Marketing

-
Live broadcast integration
-
Sponsor partnerships and activation
-
Community storytelling
-
Social and digital content
-
Event promotion
-
Local television coverage
-
Cross-platform audience engagement

Each channel supported the same goal: build anticipation, encourage participation and strengthen the community's connection to the festival.

Execution
Working alongside event organizers, sponsors, media partners and broadcast teams, I helped execute promotional campaigns before and throughout the festival.
My work included live on-air broadcasting, event interviews, sponsor messaging, commercial production, social storytelling, on-site audience engagement and television appearances.

Participating directly in the festival gave me an unusual behind-the-scenes perspective. Flying in the balloons during both years allowed me to create content from inside the experience rather than simply report on it. That firsthand perspective led to stronger storytelling across broadcast, digital and social media.

Behind the Campaign
I was fortunate to experience the festival from nearly every perspective, including broadcasting from the grounds, interviewing participants, working with sponsors and media partners, and flying over Boise in a hot-air balloon at sunrise.

Experiencing the event firsthand changed how I think about experiential marketing. The strongest campaigns invite audiences into the experience and give them something worth remembering and sharing.

Key Takeaway
The strongest brands create opportunities for people to participate, not simply observe.

When marketing engages multiple senses, builds anticipation and gives people a story they want to share, a campaign can become part of the audience's own memory.

That philosophy continues to shape how I approach experiential marketing today.
